Our History
Three decades of project delivery experience across Australia.
Flagstaff was established in 1995 by a core group of very senior executives from the John Holland Construction Group. Over time these founding Principals have been recognised as icons of the project development industry for their incisive and strategic contributions to the project world. The project success DNA imbued by these founders into the practice still drives the operations today.
Founded in Melbourne
Established by senior executives from the John Holland Construction Group. Grew quickly across government and private sector clients, delivering strategic project management, contractual matters, cost engineering, time programming, risk analysis, project review, audit and problem solving.
Brisbane Office Opens
A second core group of key executives, also founded in John Holland and recognised as icons of the project world, opened Flagstaff’s second office and expanded its national footprint.
Flagstaff PCM Launches
Extended into project management services, covering construction management through to field supervision — backed by a loyal long-term team and a comprehensive suite of procedures, systems, templates and commercial software licences.
Across our decades in project development, Flagstaff has made pivotal contributions to some of the largest, most prestigious, and in some cases most problematic, projects — representing governments and GOCs, insurers, miners, financiers, lawyers and other equity holders.
We never lose sight of the fact that we’re there for one purpose: to deliver a result.
Flagstaff’s experience can make all the difference to your project outcomes.
The Flagstaff DifferenceFlagstaff Hill
Flagstaff Hill was a key part of Melbourne’s early infrastructure. In 1840 a tall timber mast was erected on this prominent landmark, from which flags were flown according to a signalling system recently devised by a Captain Frederick Marryat. It communicated news arriving from Europe and the rest of the world on ships and weather reports between the Williamstown lighthouse and the new town. At noon each day, a black ball was hoisted and dropped to provide the first accurate time signal for Melbourne.
The founders considered this was an appropriate metaphor for a firm which aimed to be a source of wise counsel in the area of infrastructure, mining and projects and which would set new standards in provision of both ‘high level’ and ‘hands on’ advisory services.
